WW #26 - Photo of a diver taking a photo of a diver

  1. What I saw through my viewfinder one day in Larnaca Bay, Cyprus: I just had to take this picture of our friend Joe taking a picture of Jerry. (Got that?)

    This shot actually is a preview of a story we're preparing for The Right Blue (Jerry busily selecting and scanning the slides; Bobbie checking her logbooks and notes, and writing a draft).

    Stay tuned... ;-}

  2. It is remarkably blue! Does it look that blue to the eye when down there?

  3. It's a photo of a diver taking a photo of a diver watching a diver taking a photo of a diver.
    Happy ww.

  4. Hi Bobbie!
    It is so blue down there... I share Will's curiousness - is it really, well, blue, in the deep blue sea? :D My WW entry has a lot of pink in it. Please have a look when you have the time.

  5. @ Cathy (TundraTantrum) - You had to go me one better, didn't you?! (But of course you are right!!)

    @ Will and ZJ - When it is a very sunny day, and the water is very clear -- it is indeed very, very blue "down there." That's why we call it The Right Blue. ;-}

  7. It looks like you were at a pretty interesting site when you were fooling around with this shot. Beautiful blues, but still too spooky for me! I think I'll stay above :-)

  9. Wreck diving seems like it would be interesting but at the same time a bit creepy. The blue of the water is incredible. Happy WW!

  10. Great photo. Must be challenging to take photos of other divers taking photos - very "meta" :)

  11. Very blue - but I'm sure you didn't take all that equipment down there to take pictures of land-lovers - are you going to share other shots?

    Happy WW :-)

  16. WOW!! That's amazing that you can actually take pictures under water! I would love to be able to do that but I'm afraid to scuba dive. Thanks for stopping by. Happy WW

  17. It looks very deep down there; maybe because it's such a dark blue. I can't wait to read the story!

  18. That's clever. Taking a shot of someone taking a shot. Hehe.

    Love your pic. It makes me long for the beach now (I couldn't say ocean as I haven't ried diving before). But your pic lets me see what down under.

  26. I have so wanted to scuba dive and explore ship wrecks. Alas, the closest I'm going to get is "Endless Ocean" on wii.

  30. Hi Everybody! Thanks for visiting. To all of you who remarked on the color in that photo, "sea water viewed from beneath the surface comes in many hues and shade" (quoting from the sidebar of this blog!).

    The shade in the photo is almost "the Right Blue." We prefer it a tad darker. What color it looks to the eye, and to the camera lens, depends on a lot of things, but mostly on how clear the water is (or not) and how bright the ambient light is (or not). Usually, the deeper you go, the darker it is, because more and more of the light gets filtered by the water (and particles in the water) on the way down.

    Many of my photos -- especially the closeups -- are artificially lit with a strobe. Wide angle shots like the one on this page can't be artificially lit unless you have huge movie lights, with electric cables running to the surface. We don't have any of those. :-D
