Masked Butterflyfish (Chaetodon semilarvatus)

  1. That's quite a pair, set against the blue.

  2. Hi CatSynth - Yes, they're actually a little hard to photograph, because they're very bright yellow, and also somewhat reflective. Adjusting the amount of flash is tricky. Too little and you can see the fish, but not the background. Too much flash and the brightness of the fish practically burns a hole in the center of the photo!

  15. Wow - your photos are always just amazing. This one is definitely worthy of a gallery spot!

I love how bright the fish are. It's like two buttercup flowers just popped up amongst all the soothing blue.

    Just lovely... as always.

  16. What a magnificent shot! I'd heard the Red Sea was a fantastic place to dive. Even before reading your comments I was thinking about how hard it was to light those fish properly.

  26. Love the vibrance and contrast of colors! I agree, it takes extra time to adjust the flash settings - but you nailed it anyway!

  27. That's an amazing yellow! Are they really that yellow, or did you enhance the picture?

Either way it's an excellent photograph!! :)

  28. Beautiful picture!

I wish I had the guts to go "under the sea"...

  29. Thank you for the compliments on the photo.

@ Frigga - The photo was cropped from a larger one, but otherwise not 'enhanced' in any way. Those fish really are that yellow -- and very reflective, too, compared to the background, so they sort of 'jump out' of the photo.

  34. @ Will - It is an apt name for these particular fish. Thanks for visiting.

@ 2Sweet - Glad you like the photo. I think it is the contrast that "makes" this shot.
