I hope it's obvious from the photo how the Crocodile Fish got its name. This guy lives in sand patches between coral reefs. His blotchy coloring camouflages him well. He waits quietly and un-noticed until an unsuspecting little fishy comes past, and then he snaps at it, grabs it and eats it.
Don't worry. The Crocodile fish only eats little fishies. He's harmless to divers (and other humans). I photographed this guy in the Red Sea. He was about 2 feet (60cm) long.
The Right Blue refers to the goal of a lifelong pursuit. Sea water viewed from beneath the surface comes in many hues and shades. Surfers wait for the perfect wave; divers seek the right blue.

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing fish. It looks so much like a croc!
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting fish - reminds me of a grouper, but much flatter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit today, I'm skipping WW this week (against my own advice), but I've already got something in the queue for next week!
Maybe you can waterproof your camera phone and get some underwater shots. I'm accepting guest post submissions now! :)

Beautiful picture. It does look like a crocodile! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy post. Happy WW!
I'm chuckling to think that so many of you thought this guy looked scary. Ugly? Maybe. Goofy? Yep. But believe me, he's completely harmless.
ReplyDelete@ Shannon - They are really hard to spot, unless they happen to move.
@ Pete - You don't understand: One of the great things about being underwater is no phones!! :-D
But I will pass along the word about your quest for guest camera phone bloggers.

Awesome! Glad to hear its harmless to divers. It does look like part of the ocean floor.
