  1. This is a macro photo of a nudibranch (AKA sea slug). In real life, the creature is only about two inches (5cm) long. The two things sticking up from its 'head' are sensory organs. Its gills are the fluffy tree-like structure sticking up near the rear.

  12. That is stunning, and so not what I was picturing when I read "nudibranch" LOL. (Yes, I do apparently have the sense of humor of an 8 year old boy. Comes from parenting one I suppose.)

  29. It is beautiful, but indeed it does not look real!

I visited your link and now I know there is a "Sea Slug Forum". Who would have thought?!

What was the size of this specimen?

  30. @ Bernie - Yes, I do love macro photography!

@ Becky - I like the colors, too. By the way, you can't see it in this photo but the underside has a bit of purple.

@ Robert S. - No, this creature is not from the intertidal zone. It lives on reefs at depths of 10 meters or more.

@ Will - The Sea Slug Forum is a wonderful treasure trove of information about these kinds of critters.

This specimen was nearly two inches long.
