  7. Happy New Year!

The turtle looks so peaceful against simplicity of the water - gliding though the right blue indeed!

  8. Excellent photo of the sea turtle. It must have been fun to swim with them. I was lucky to see some sea turtles on the Big Island and even nesting on Tern Island in French Frigate Shoals.

  12. Gorgeous! We were able to swim with a turtle off the coast of Mau'i. What an incredible experience. We also swam with a wild pod of spinner dolphins. Now that was truly amazing...

  15. I love sea turtles. I got one the worst sunburns of my life watching sea turtles surface off the jetties on Mustang Island in South Texas. It was hypnotic they were coming up every 8 minutes or so in the same spot every time. There were several individuals so it was quite a show. I lost track of time and ended up roasted! I bet they are amazing underwater.

  30. Hi all - Thanks very much for visiting and giving us your feedback, which we always appreciate.

@ Carletta -- Thanks for the compliments.

@ Natural Moments -- Yes, it is always a treat to share the ocean with sea turtles. They are among our favorite marine animals.

@ Pamela -- If you take another try at scuba diving and do it here on the Big Island, I can tell you a few spots where you would almost be guaranteed to see a sea turtle.

@ Gracie - Good for you! We have resident spinner dolphins on our coast, too. They really are wonderful.

@ Shannon -- I have to say, observing sea turtles underwater bears MUCH less risk of sunburn than what you described!

@ Connie -- I would love to see that painting!

@ Alice -- Of course I took the photo myself! Virtually all the photos on The Right Blue are my original work. (The ones that are not are clearly marked.)

@ Chris (A Free Man) -- The background actually is pretty close to the 'right blue' -- maybe a tad more sunlight filtering down to be precisely THE right blue... ;-)

..and to those of you who mentioned National Geographic, if you would like to be my agent, let me know. :-D

Happy New Year to all of you! Hope 2009 turns out well for you.

  31. I'm reading a book about sea turtles right now. Last night's section briefly discussed the elongated "hand" bones of the Green Turtle's front flippers. So this was a timely post to wake up to!

  33. @ Lavender - Glad to oblige. Perhaps you were 'transmitting' something, because I almost chose a different photo to post -- not a sea turtle.

@ The Yothers - Thank you, and welcome to The Right Blue.
